That is what I thought of with the Retrospect Topic ‘Changing Times’ – not the clocks to be moved forward but the 1960s and then beyond. I was 14 when Bob Dylan’s song ‘The Times They Are A-Changin’ was first released and it foretold for me, it prepared me for, my coming of age challenges of drugs and ‘The War’ in Vietnam and girls and college. Five years later I would attend Woodstock and even more coming of age took place.
It is amazing how much music captured the present time while preparing me for my future. Including the Boston J. Geils Band and ‘Love Stinks’. Of course love doesn’t stink all of the time just some of the time.

Thanx for your take on Changing Times, Kevin!,
Dylan is indeed part of the soundtrack of all our lives!
It’s nice to read a different take on “changing times”, but a good one, Kevin. Right you are – we lived through lots of social change as exemplified by the music of our era, Dylan being our high priest. That music sticks with us, it defined us (we were at a wedding two weeks ago and were amazed that even now, the kids are dancing to music from our era). I can still conjure up images of where I was based on the tunes that were playing each year. Thanks for those memories.
I still find it necessary to listen to “Tangled Up in Blue” at least once a month.
Glad you went this direction. CAptured a lot in just a few sentences. Hey, there’s a guy named Kevin whose name appears briefly in my story.
Kevin, Bob was a huge part of my life for a very long time. Johnny next door learned the guitar at 15 and played nothing but Dylan for the rest of his life. Since I was 12 yrs old at the time, and Johnny was my best friend, I listened and memorized every Dylan song I heard. When people ask me who inspired me to write, Dylan is number one. Can’t think of a better influence – he was and still is a master wordsmith. Thank you so much for writing this, I loved it!
As Patty says Bob Dylan is a master wordsmith and he has the Nobel Prize to prove it!
