O’Shaughnessy’s Ode has always arisen in me to describe what being a poet means. I am one, since the age of eleven I write.  Have to. Whenever the blood flow swells in me, whenever the thought erupts or the passion breaks through these mesmerized human threads, I write.  Johnny next door was a few years older.  He picked up a guitar and all he played was Dylan, for years. Johnny was my best friend and Dylan became my first mentor.  All these many years after, all the voices I’ve heard, the poets, the song-writers, authors, movie writers, play writers, completely captivate me.  I think of them with every piece of heart-throbbing, goose-bumping ideas they invoke in me, in all of us.  God bless and keep safe the WRITERS.  They come from an incredibly lonely place to create – just the pen, paper and their mystic imagination.

I love how you give voice to the need in those of us who love to write to create.

Hi Laurie, thanks, I think creating is a process of concentrated intuition fused with a godly spark, a lightening moment of invisible intensity that the creator grabs and brings forward. Too much trying fails. Only sincerity and a keen heart prevails, is this how you feel?

  2. Betsy Pfau says:

When you must express yourself, then write. You can do more. I love the way you speak of yourself as a writer; someone who must satisfy that urge.

This is a lovely piece, you express yourself very poetically. Welcome to Retrospect! I hope you’ll keep writing here.
